Monday 9th March – Relax and small hike **** Sunny. La Chevrerie
We had a really lazy relaxing day after yesterday’s exertion!! We had a
long lie in reading then did exercises outside on the yoga mat on the snow.
It was great looking at the awesome view, the amazing blue sky and a pair
of Buzzards calling to each other while flying over the lake and landing in
various trees – looking for a place to nest? We had our breakfast around
lunchtime then went for a long but leisurely walk around the end of the
lake to the Chapel St. Bruno then on along the river to the village and up
to the ski station. We walked back down the river piste then up the
learner slope to the ski shop and had a good chat with the owner who spoke
a little English. He showed us a good snow shoe walk on the map and gave
us a leaflet for his chalet rental! Back to the van for a late lunch and
an afternoon reading and Mag carried on with her rug making. About 6 we
drove up to the ski station to overnight and be in the right place to ski
tomorrow morning. We were amazed when 3 other camper vans turned up! We
haven’t seen any here before. Stephen picked some rubbish from somebody
elses picnic up from behind the van and earned a hearty ‘Bravo’ and
round of applause from two ski instructors at the bar when he walked to the
bin:) We have a nice spot overlooking the river and the other campers are
all in the main body of the car park so we are not surrounded!
Tuesday 10th March – Ski ***** La Chevriere – Sunny 45.46kts &
35.61n/miles (41 miles) :)
We got ready and were on the lift up to do the Roc d’Enfer circuit and
ski at La Chevriere by 9.30!
It was a glorious day which did cloud over at lunchtime but by then we were
too hot and felt like our faces were burning in the sun anyway. We did the
circuit three times totalling 41 miles! We stopped after the second
circuit at the mid way section (at the top of the des Tetes lift) for lunch
at the picnic tables with an amazing view over the Village of Graydon in
the valley and Mont Blanc overhead :) We had our lunch here last time too.
Carried on having great fun and doing the odd piste here and there which
didn’t make up the circuit. On our third trip round we stopped at the
bottom of the piste into St-Jean D’Aulps and visited their Sherpa shop
which is just by the bubble cable car back up to the top. We waited a few
minutes for them to open at 3 and bought bread and milk, bringing it back
in the ruck sack which is a bit risky if you fall over – milk everywhere!
But we were ok and everything got back in one piece :) We also stopped to
watch school kids going off for an adventure on snow shoes, skiing, and
some even got to go dog sledding! They had three children to each dog
towing a wooden container which we assume takes provisions to houses which
are cut off in the snow. There wasn’t anything in them – it was just
for fun and the dogs absolutely love it:) Wow, they are so lucky to get to
do these things – so much more exciting than p.e. in England! It was
also lovely later to watch the dogs being taken off their chain at the end
of the day and being allowed to run free back to their boxes in their
special trailer. They are so well behaved! We had one final trip up in
the lift and returned down the red piste into La Chevriere before getting
back in the van and eating the whole loaf of bread with butter and jam and
drinking two coffees on the trot again!! It was a brilliant day – we
love it here :)
